waterPRINT
Comprehensive characterization of organic matter and biomarkers in the water cycle: An integrated study using environmental proteomics and small molecule-high resolution mass spectrometry
WaterPRINT aims at providing rigorous analytical methods and tools for the holistic characterization of water samples based on high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) fingerprinting of dissolved organic matter (DOM), including both, small and large molecules. WaterPRINT will validate the mass spectrometric approaches for (1) the characterization of DOM profiles in sewage and the determination of potential new endogenous biomarkers for wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE), (2) assessing fate and removal of DOM through (waste)water treatment to estimate and optimize the treatment efficiency, and (3) the prediction of disinfection byproducts (DBPs) after water treatment.
